This section of IEC 60095 pertains to lead-acid batteries that have a nominal voltage of 12 V, which are predominantly employed as a power source for initiating the operation of internal combustion engines, illuminating purposes, and as auxiliary power for vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines. Such batteries are commonly referred to as “starter batteries.”
The scope of this standard does not extend to batteries intended for other applications, such as the starting of locomotive internal combustion engines.
The standard delineates the following:
- General requirements;
- Essential functional characteristics, along with the corresponding test methods and the required outcomes, for various classes of starter batteries;
- These characteristics are categorized based on the general type of application;
- Additionally, they are categorized according to the nature of the product.
