This Standard establishes the requirements for creat-ing orthographic views for item description. The topics covered include the multiview system ofdrawing, selec-tion, and arrangement of orthographic views, auxiliary views, sectional views, details, and conventional draw-ing practices. Space geometry and space analysis and applications are included in the appendices for informa-tional purposes.

This Standard establishes the line and lettering practices for use in the preparation of drawings, including the recognition of the requirements for computer aided design (CAD) and manually prepared drawings. When no exception or additional requirements are stated, existing ASME standards shall apply.

This Standard defines decimal inch sheet sizes and formats forengineering drawings. Metric sheet sizes and format are defined in ASME Y14.1M. For engineering drawing preparation and practices, see ASME Y14.100.
