IEC 60761-2:2002 pdf download

Section of IEC 60761 pertains to equipment designed for concurrent, deferred, or discrete sequential assessment of aerosols present in gaseous emissions released into the environment. It is intended for devices capable of performing the following tasks:

  • Measuring the volumetric activity (Bq/m³) of aerosols in gaseous effluents and/or the total released activity of aerosols (Bq);
  • Triggering an alarm when a set volumetric activity or total released activity threshold for aerosols is surpassed.

Such equipment is intended for measuring across a broad spectrum of activity levels, including extremely low quantities amidst a significantly larger natural background. The daughters of 222Rn (radon) and 220Rn (thoron) are examples of naturally occurring aerosols that contribute to the natural background. The ability to differentiate from natural activity can be a critical challenge in monitoring low-level activity. To enhance the quality and quantity of information, supplementary or post-collection laboratory analysis of the filters may be conducted.

The purpose of this standard is to set forth specific standard requirements, which include technical specifications and general testing conditions, and to provide examples of acceptable methods for aerosol effluent monitoring devices.

The general requirements, technical specifications, testing procedures, radiation characteristics, electrical, mechanical, safety, and environmental features are detailed in IEC 60761-1. Unless otherwise specified, these requirements are applicable to the present standard.
