This section of IEC 60747 outlines an accelerated testing method designed to evaluate the impact of tarnishing on silver and silver alloys used in LED packages, specifically due to exposure to hydrogen sulfide. The primary aim of this test method is to provide insights into how tarnishing affects the luminous and radiant flux maintenance of LED packages. Additionally, it can assess the electrical performance of LED packages as a result of corrosion of silver and silver alloys.
The purpose of this test is to examine the effects of hydrogen sulfide-containing atmospheres on components of LED packages made from:
- Silver or silver alloys;
- Silver or silver alloys that are protected by an additional layer;
- Other metals that are coated with silver or silver alloys.
This test does not focus on other types of degradation that may impact luminous/radiant flux maintenance or electrical performance, such as the degradation of copper or silicone components.
This document is applicable to LED packages intended for lighting applications only when referenced by an IEC SC 34A document.
