IEC 60599:2007 serves as a guide for interpreting the concentrations of dissolved gases or free gases to assess the condition of oil-filled electrical equipment in operation and to recommend future actions.
It is applicable to electrical devices filled with mineral insulating oil and insulated with cellulosic paper or pressboard-based solid insulation. The guide provides information on specific types of equipment, including transformers (such as power, instrument, industrial, railway, and distribution), reactors, bushings, switchgear, and oil-filled cables, as indicated in the application notes (see Annex A).
While this guide can be cautiously applied to other liquid-solid insulating systems, the results obtained should be considered as advisory only. Any subsequent actions should be taken with appropriate engineering judgment.
