These capacitors may exhibit “self-healing properties” depending on their usage conditions. They are mainly intended for applications where the alternating current component is minimal compared to the rated voltage. Two performance grades are specified: Grade 1 for long-life applications and Grade 2 for general use.
Capacitors intended for electromagnetic interference suppression and surface mount fixed metallized polyethylene-terephthalate film dielectric DC capacitors are not included in this specification, as they are addressed by IEC 60384-14 and IEC 60384-19, respectively.
