This section of IEC 60050 provides the general terminology used in the field of conformity assessment, as well as general terms relevant to specific applications and associated technologies. It holds the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108, Guidelines for Ensuring Coherence of IEC Publications – Application of Horizontal Standards.
The terminology is consistent with that developed in other specialized parts of the IEV.
This horizontal standard is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles outlined in IEC Guide 108.
One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, whenever applicable, to utilize horizontal standards in the preparation of its publications. The content of this horizontal standard will not apply unless specifically referred to or incorporated into the relevant publications.
