This section of IEC 61851, in conjunction with IEC 61851-23, pertains to digital communication between a direct current (d.c.) electric vehicle (EV) charging station and an electric road vehicle for the control of d.c. charging. It accommodates an a.c. input voltage of up to 1,000 V and a d.c. input voltage of up to 1,500 V during the conductive charging process.
The charging operation falls under mode 4, as specified in IEC 61851-23. However, charging stations powered by high-voltage a.c. supply are not included within the scope of this standard.
Annexes A, B, and C provide detailed descriptions of the digital communication protocols for controlling d.c. charging specific to d.c. EV charging systems A, B, and C, as defined in Part 23.
