The current standard is designed for line post insulators that incorporate ceramic insulating components, which are intended for use on a.c. overhead transmission lines with a nominal voltage exceeding 1,000 V and a frequency not exceeding 100 Hz.
The standard is applicable to both tie-top type line post insulators, designed for either vertical or horizontal installation (refer to Figure 1), and clamp-top type line post insulators, which are intended for vertical installation (Figure 4) as well as horizontal installation (Figure 5).
It covers line post insulators with standard creepage distances suitable for overhead lines in areas with clean or moderately polluted conditions, as well as those with extended creepage distances, which are appropriate for use on overhead lines in polluted regions.
NOTE: The potential extension of this standard to include glass insulators may be evaluated at a later time.
