This portion of IEC 60076 pertains to dry-type power transformers, including auto-transformers, with the highest voltage rating for equipment reaching up to and including 36 kV and at least one winding operating at a voltage greater than 1.1 kV. The standard is applicable to transformers constructed using all types of technology.
However, the standard does not cover:
- Dry-type transformers filled with gases other than air;
- Single-phase transformers with a rating below 5 kVA;
- Polyphase transformers with a rating below 15 kVA;
- Instrument transformers (refer to IEC 60044 and IEC 60186);
- Starters;
- Test transformers;
- Traction transformers mounted on rolling stock;
- Flameproof and mine-duty transformers;
- Welding transformers;
- Voltage regulators;
- Small power transformers where safety is a particular concern.
In instances where there are no IEC standards for the aforementioned transformers or other specialized transformers, this standard may be applied in its entirety or selectively.
