The purpose of this standard is to establish specifications for polyolefin-insulated cables designed for use in outdoor local networks.
This standard is relevant to polyolefin-insulated and moisture-barrier polyolefin-jacketed telephone cables, whether filled with copper conductors or not, and is intended for use as:
a) Cables designed for installation in conduits.
b) Cables designed for direct burial underground.
c) Cables equipped with an integral suspension strand for aerial installations.
The standard aligns with ITU-T Recommendations.
It encompasses general design specifications, requirements for dimensions and other constructional details, as well as mechanical, electrical, and environmental characteristics for all varieties of low-frequency cables featuring polyolefin insulation (either solid or cellular), whether filled or unfilled, and with a moisture-barrier polyolefin sheath that includes an integral suspension strand.
