IEC 60644:2009 primarily pertains to fuse-links designed for use with motors that are started directly on-line within alternating current systems operating at 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
NOTE: This specification can also be applicable for motors with assisted starting; however, special attention should be given to the selection of the fuse-link’s rated current (refer to section 8.1), and it is advisable to consult the manufacturer of the fuse-link.
Fuse-links that conform to this specification are intended to endure typical service conditions as well as motor starting pulses. They must meet the requirements outlined in IEC 60282-1.
The objective of this standard is to standardize time-current characteristics, establish pulse withstand testing requirements, and provide guidance on selecting fuse-links for use with motors.
