BS IEC 61225:2005 outlines the performance and functional characteristics required for electrical supply systems that support the instrumentation and control (I&C) systems critical to the safety of nuclear power plants. It also provides guidance regarding the potential application of these supplies for other I&C systems.
These power supplies should be sourced from primary systems that offer adequate redundancy and reliability to ensure that the safety and functional goals of the I&C system are effectively met.
This standard details the application methods for the IAEA Safety Guide NS-G-1.3. Specific design requirements for the components of the I&C power supply system are addressed by IEC standards and other referenced standards, which are not included in the scope of this document.
Furthermore, the scope of the I&C power supply system described in this standard does not extend to certain equipment within an I&C system that may require specific and specialized power supply quality or reliability. This includes tighter tolerances for frequency or voltage, as well as shorter interruption times for power loss than those stipulated by the normal tolerances found in relevant IEC standards for power plants.
