Free board connectors are equipped with contacts designed for soldering connections. These connectors’ terminations are designed to be inserted into holes on the printed circuit board as per IEC 60326-3 and IEC 60326-5, which are positioned on a 2.54 mm grid.
Fixed board connectors are designed for either direct pressing into place or for pressing with an added wire wrapping and mating feature.
The connector is secured using the press-in terminations, eliminating the need for fixing holes on the backplane. The spacing between the center lines of the terminations is 2.54 mm or a multiple thereof. These terminations are compatible with backplanes that have a 2.54 mm grid pattern.
